Salt Dough Recipe
2 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 cup of water
Green food coloring (it takes a lot of green to make it Kelly green)
Mix all ingredients well and knead until smooth. The dough should not be sticky, add more flour if it is. Roll the dough out like you're making cookies and stamp out with a shamrock cookie cutter. Bake on a lined cookie sheet for 40-50 minutes at 325 degrees.
Not a huge fan of Root-beer only if it has a little ice cream mixed in with it, so i wasn't sure i would like these cookies. But let me tell you they are to die for and believe me when I say you can't just eat one. Also when I see a recipe with a lot of ingredients it scares me, but these are simple i promise, Don't let the ingredients scare you!
Here is the recipe:
Rootbeer Cookies
2 Cups brown Sugar
1/2 Cup buttermilk {Or Milk with 2 tsp vinegar}
1 Cup Softened marg
2 Eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 T Root beer extract
Mix well then add:
4 Cups Flour (I add more)
1 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
Place about one tsp of dough on sprayed with PAM cookie sheet
Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes
Cool. Makes 3 1/2 dozen cookies
FROSTING
1 Cup powd sugar {I use almost a bag}
2 T milk {I use more}
2 tsp melted butter {I use 1/2 cup softened butter}
2 T Rootbeer extract {I use about 1 T}
2 1/2 cups flour (plus more for kneading)
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
3 cups water
3 tablespoons oil
- Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and cream of tartar in a large, heavy bottomed saucepan.
- Add water and oil.
- Stir constantly over medium heat. The mixture will be soupy for several minutes and then suddenly it will stick together and can be stirred into a ball.
- When mixture thickens and forms a rough ball, remove from the heat and continue stirring.
- Turn the hot ball of dough onto a floured surface, and begin kneading as it cools. Add extra flour if mixture is too sticky. Continue kneading until flour is incorporated and dough is no longer sticky.
- Enjoy dough with rollers, cutters, and other tools.
- Store at room temperature in a large zip-lock bag or other air tight container.
I took these pictures today and thought they might add a great touch to a playroom. I will show pictures of when I blow them up BIG and put them in a cute frame!

TA'DA
the other night after the girl's were in bed and the hubs and I started a movie and in the middle of it I looked over at him and asked if he loved me and he said yes then I said will you do me a HUGE favor. I asked him if he would go outside and find me a branch. i thought he would think i was insane and give me a hard time but he said sure and asked if i could show him a picture of it on the computer so he could get an idea of what i was wanting. I laugh as i am writing this because tory is the only guy that could ever be married to me seriously. i am all over the place...
so he came back with this branch tree looking thing... who know where he found it, i didn't ask. but it was perfect.
so my search began for things to decorate it with
i used what i already had
scrap book paper
clothes pins
ribbon scraps
christmas card pictures that friends and family sent this year that were on my fridge.
and ta-da a cheap inexpensive valentine decoration. kinda funny lookin but i like it!
the possibilites are endless with this one. you could spray paint the branch white or red.
even add glitter for some bling.
I am so excited about this new project I am starting this year with my sister in law Cassie in San Diego and My cousin Rachel in Rexburg Idaho. All three of us are on the road to becoming professional photographers and would like some practice through out the week. Every week we will pick four different themes to try and photograph. It will be interesting to see what we all come up with. This is a great way to learn how to think outside of the box, get creative and stay close to family far away. If anyone else wants to join us please do:-)
